3 simple steps to switching
1. Inform your existing accountant
The main action for you to get the ball rolling is to inform your existing accountant by writing or emailing that you plan to switch accountants.
You can also at this point consider any outstanding work to be completed. You can also discuss a handover date if there is outstanding work to be done, but also know that as your new accountant I will make the changeover simple.

2. Register with us as your new accountant
I will send you our standard terms of engagement and quote for services, and once signed, I will then carry out anti-money laundering checks as per Anti-Money Laundering Regulations. This is not time-consuming, and usually only requires photo ID and proof of address from you.
You are now a client!
A P Carter will take over the communication with your old accountant and go through the clearance process.

3. Clearance
I will write to your new accountant formally, a process known as ‘clearance’.
The letter will outline that you have engaged us as your new accountant, and I will ask if they think there are any reasons not to take you on as a client.
I will also ask for copies of previous accounts, tax records, tax returns and any other information we need to make the transition as smooth as possible.
